TGIF! Good news: the sky, if not already, should be as blue as in the above photo, through the remainder of the season (or at least next week, according to the forecast.) Speaking of summer, here’s the latest in Hamptons ridiculousness: Some lucky prospective renters who won a Corcoran/BLADE lottery will be helicoptered out this Sunday from Manhattan, for aerial views of summer properties. Because driving to properties is what the merely rich do, dammit.

How do I get around this place, anyhow?

Speaking of choppers, the never-ending Hamptons saga continues: The City of New York has filed an amicus brief in support (awww!) of East Hampton Town’s petition to the U.S. Supreme Court to impose airport curfews. And in potentially good news for drunks, New York State Gov. Cuomo is this close to ending East Hampton Town’s ability to ban Uber.

There are still printing presses, people

The East End Beacon, whose online morning bulletins we’ve long enjoyed, has decided to go to print. (Younger readers: Email us if you’re unsure what this means.) The Beacon’s monthly print newspaper began circulating on April 1, a.k.a. April Fool’s Day, “because this may seem to you like a foolish idea,” editor Beth Young says. We’ve heard of crazier things, like spaghetti donuts. The rag is available at all the local hot spots, from the Candy Kitchen in Bridgehampton to Schiavoni’s IGA in Sag Harbor. Break a leg, East End Beacon!

Some readers might ask, will the Hampton Bee ever go to print? Answer: No.

Quick takes…

It is time to register, and what the hell, even train, for the Shelter Island 10k, which this year is June 17…

The Southampton Animal Shelter is looking for bird seed donations to entertain its kitties, who sit behind the glass in the “Catio” and watch birds in the feeders…

Did someone say “yes way, rosé” – ? Channing Daughters invites all to its tasting room:”7, yes all SEVEN of our 2017 Multi Rosati/Rose/Pinks are here!”…

On tap for the weekend

  • This is that enjoyable time of year in the Hamptons where you can’t throw a seashell without hitting a restaurant or boutique having its grand re-opening. Two big ones this weekend: Dockers Waterside in East Quogue, which never met a sunset it didn’t like, is opening for the season today, while the Clam Bar at Napeague opens Saturday…
  • 78 Foster restaurant in Hampton Bays is having its grand opening (as in, first time ever) today. We like the look of its menu
  • ArtUnprimed, the pop-up art gallery that made winter interesting, has moved into a new space: 105 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, at Mary’s Marvelous. (Convenient if you also need a muffin fix.) Stop by an opening reception of “best works” this Saturday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Intriguing: There will also be a “Cabinet of Curiosities,” a wall of white cubbies filled with unique things: sculpture, textiles, maybe artist Scott Bluedorn if we’re lucky. Details here.

Social Media Quote of the Day

“It’s 39 cold and rainy, but as far as I’m concerned the season has started.” — Steve Haweeli, owner of WordHampton Public Relations in Springs, posting this delicious photo of his desk-side lunch: lobster roll from client Bostwick’s Chowder House in East Hampton, which re-opened Thursday.
