Happy #HumpDay! For anyone worried about lack of snow this winter, here’s good news: There is apparently a deadly Nor’Easter barreling our way this weekend. Awesome. Also, there’s a full moon. RUN FOR YOUR LIVES. Or at least stock up on groceries at Citarella.
If only we had a green accent on our desk…
For naysayers who think there’s nothing going on in the Hamptons in January, we can shut that down right now: There is a terrarium workshop on Friday, Jan. 29, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., sponsored by East Quogue florist Roses & Rice at Jamesport Vineyards. We weren’t sure, exactly, what a terrarium was — we erroneously thought it had something to do with turtles — so we asked Jill on the florist’s workshop team. “Terrariums are glass vessels filled with living plants, succulents and other natural bits,” she says. (Photo above is a visual aid.) “They are great alternatives to a house plant and also add a green accent to your workspace.” Lovely!
If you’ve got green thumbs, consider attending the workshop, which is $75 and includes a glass of wine, plus a light cheese and fruit board. (This is the Hamptons, people.) Details here. Jill tells us a (sold-out) grapevine wreath workshop in November inside Jamesport’s converted barn attracted 35 people….so don’t dilly-dally.
What’s that ringing in my ears?
Huh. Here’s another equally random event to add to your Hamptons winter calendar: Dr. Joan Roberts will discuss the effects of sound on human health at the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton this coming Monday at 5:30 p.m. Sounds that mimic nature (ocean waves, wind, rain) can calm the body’s stress response and aid in deep sleep. Meanwhile, loud sounds can kill you. Or at least increase your heart rate.
If you’re worried that your frequent podcast listening is harming your health, consider attending. Details here. And guess what: Dr. Roberts’ sound lecture will be followed by a wine-and-cheese reception at the Southampton Inn. The hotel reminds people that hotel rates in January are cheap: $149 plus tax. Music to someone’s ears.
Just in time for the deadly storm, Amagansett IGA has a sale on hot cocoa mix, thank god. SoulCycle enthusiasts (you know who you are) will be pleased to know that First Lady Michelle Obama is also hooked on the New York chain’s cardio workouts. SoulCycle has four locations in the Hamptons, including one in Montauk opened last year. Everyone from HarborBooks to Springs General is concerned about “Yogi Bob,” a Yorkshire terrier who’s been missing since Jan. 7 from East Hampton and needs an insulin shot. Woof. There is a $5,000 cash reward offered. Woof, woof. Here is what the little guy looks like.
Social Media Quote of the Day
“I think…I need to make more and more…” — Channing Daughters winery, as it tweeted this Instagram photo of pétillant naturel. Or as the cool kids say, “pet-nat.” Like Champagne, except cheaper.
