Happy almost weekend! We are not going to let the fall season go by without sharing as many photos of cute kids and pumpkins as we can find, dammit. This one comes to us from Lenny Bruno Farms, conveniently located off the LIE (Exit 69) in Manorville, which this week declared: “Pumpkin picking has commenced!” Other family-friendly places sharing the “U Pick” love include Hank’s Pumpkintown and the Milk Pail in Water Mill, and Harbes Orchards in Riverhead. Please note apples and delicious pies may or may not be involved as well.

Is there a pre-retiree in the audience?

Well now. It’s hard to file this one away, given that we’ve been enjoying pre-retirement since shortly after graduating college. The Hampton Bays Public Library is hosting a 4-part “pre-retiree” workshop series, starting Oct. 12. The classes will be led by Richard Gluck, who is apparently a pre-retirement expert. Gluck can help you answer such pressing questions as “Am I ready to retire” and “What will I do with my time.” We should note here that the Hampton Bee is looking for pre-retiree interns.

Speaking of old guys…

The 2016 Bridgehampton Museum Road Rally is this Saturday, which means you’re not imagining things if a Ford Motor T zips past you on the Montauk Highway. Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean we’ve gone back to a kindler, simpler time, back when the craziest thing that happened during a presidential race was a candidate getting shot in the chest and continuing to talk (that actually happened, thank you Teddy Roosevelt). This year’s rally, by the way, celebrates Bridehampton’s racing history (who knew!). Apparently, the Hamptons were a heartbeat away from NASCAR.

On tap for the weekend…

  • Montauk Beach House invites you to a “Sharing the Love BBQ” this Saturday, from noon to 6 p.m. There will be $2 hot dogs, $4 burgers and 1/2 price cocktails. Love, shared.  Also, there will be “a surprise DJ set to keep your ears and soul happy,” the organizers say…
  • We’re not sure what kundalini is (frankly, we’re a family publication), but if you practice it, then head to the Montauk Salt Cave this Sunday at 9:45 a.m., where Jen Frasher will be leading a session (with gong)….
  • Pierre’s restaurant in Bridgehampton will serve some Brazilian bossa nova with its French food on Sunday, featuring the smooth sounds of Ludmilla and Marcello Pimenta, starting at 6:30 p.m. Details here

Social Media Quote of the Day

“Summer is a state of mind.” — NIBI MTK, Kristin Sheeler’s surfer-chic boutique in Montauk, in this picture quote on Instagram. Word. (Typed as a cold gusty wind nearly broke our deck umbrella in two).
