And just like that, it’s September. We’re as surprised about this as you are.

Can we get a “woof woof” y’all

The pet community is mobilizing to help animals displaced by Hurricane Harvey. “We are taking three full transport vehicles to Texas, leaving tonight,” says Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, posting this photo Thursday of donations being packed into one of its mobile adoption truck. “The only space we have left is for the drivers.” Meanwhile, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation put out a call for volunteers. “We have big hearts but not too much room,” the shelter says. “Help us by fostering one of our dogs or welcome a Harvey survivor into your home.”

Quick takes…

• Someday, if we’re ever arrested, we can only hope we look as good in a bikini as Gina Bradley of Paddle Diva, photo here. (We should clarify that Bradley wasn’t actually arrested, but cited for running a popular business  not having a mass gathering permit…)

• Killer Bees, the long awaited documentary on the Bridgehampton boys basketball team, will premiere opening night of the Hamptons International Film Festival, according to 27East.com…

• Southampton’s 75 Main restaurant has won a Star Diamond award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (the organization helmed by Joseph “Joey No Socks” Cinque, a longtime Trump acquaintance). “Thank you to all my great customers,” 75 Main owner Zach Erdem says. “We love you…”

• If you make it through the weekend, Dockers, everybody’s favorite waterside bar in East Quogue, will be hosting a Tumbleweed Tuesday party, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be live music from Gene Casey & the Loan Sharks. And roast pig.

• Good stuff: WordHampton Public Relations, the Springs-based agency owned by Steve Haweeli, is celebrating 25 years in business later this month…

On tap for the weekend…

• Shaaaaark! The Southampton Arts Center will screen Jaws tonight at 8:30 p.m. Bring chairs, picnic and easily terrified young children, who will never swim again…

• Emotions in motion: Billy Squier, the musician and songwriter (you know him from the 1980s) will be at Guild Hall with GE Smith, tonight at 8 p.m…

• We heart landscapes: There will be an opening reception featuring the work of late artist Priscilla Bowden at Ashawagh Hall in Springs on Saturday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. We also heart #wineandcheese.

• Hello, awesomeness: the 71st Annual Shinnecock Indian Powwow will be all weekend…

• Red meat alert: New York Prime Beef is popping up at Schmidt’s Market in Southampton all weekend. Everything is dry-aged, which in steak is a good thing…

Social Media Quote of the Day

“Charlie Chaplin came by for lunch!” — Le Charlot restaurant in Southampton, rather breathlessly, posting this celebrity photo on Instagram.

The Hampton Bee will be on hiatus, post Labor Day. We’ll miss you, too. Email: editor@thehamptonbee.com
