Weekend Bee: Secret Art Galleries, Killer Abs & Mad Men Sightings

Happy weekend! The “most secret art exhibit in the Hamptons” award goes to artist Sydney Albertini’s “The Woman’s Work,” pictured above, which is only on view till Monday in a giant barn off Three Mile Harbor Road in Springs. Here is the location; good luck finding it. But it’s worth it, we promise.

In other “art shows in barns” news (apparently it’s a thing) there will be an opening next Saturday August 5 at Golden Eagle Art’s Studio 144, which is a barn next to Nick & Toni’s in East Hampton. Yes, there is a barn next to Nick & Toni’s. FolioEast will present the painting, sculpture and photography of a number of local East End artists, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. We are 99% sure there will be wine and cheese.

This is what happens when you have killer abs

Here’s hope for small businesses everywhere: Paddle Diva fought the man…and Paddle Diva won. “I feel like I can breathe again,” Gina Bradley, the owner of the paddleboard business, told the East Hampton Star. The future of Paddle Diva, which operates out of Shagwong Marina on Three Mile Harbor, had been uncertain since last year, when the town concluded Bradley’s operation went beyond what code allowed in the marina. Last week, a state supreme court judge said “not so” and “you go, girl” (or the legal equivalent of that). Victory is yours, Paddle Diva.

Quick takes

• A rare lobster was discovered at Stuart’s Seafood Market in Amagansett this week; he is half-brown and half-orange and may be called “Bowie” (which is better than “dinner”) in honor of the late David Bowie’s multi-colored eyes, according to 27East.com…

• No joke: Maidstone Club, the most prestigious club in the Americas, wants a chicken coop. Rejected members will be thrown into it, along with women and minorities (JK, Maidstone!). The club wants it for children’s educational purposes, according to the Star

Dockers Waterside, everybody’s favorite place to watch the sunset, is putting the finishing touches (aqua stripes!) on its food truck…

• Chelsea Clinton, everybody’s favorite daughter, will be signing her new book, “She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World,” at BookHampton next Friday August 4….

• It’s Wine O’Clock somewhere: The 1770 House has once again received a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence (see here), in part for its strong selection of French and California wines. Kudos to wine director Michael Cohen…

On tap for the weekend

• The Ladies Village Improvement Society in East Hampton is hosting a fair, plus a silent auction, on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., which is is its second most exciting event of the year, the first being its annual dollar sale in January…

• Did someone say caftan? De La Mer 1981, a clothing label based in Rockaway Beach, Queens, is having a trunk show Saturday at the Share With boutique in Montauk, 11 a.m. to 3 pm…

• Looking for summer romance? Private dating club Social Concierge is hosting a Hamptons Garden Party on Saturday at the Montauk Yacht Club, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The organizers say attendees will be “well-educated, driven, attractive and sociable,” not like those sloppy drunks on Tinder…

• More from the “you go, girl” file: Neopolitical Cowgirls, the theater group run by Kate Meuth, will host women’s empowerment event Andromeda’s Sisters at Guild Hall in East Hampton this Sunday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a panel, cocktails and performances (bias alert: The Hamton Bee’s editor, who moonlights as a women’s advocate, is on the panel)…

•Good enough for me: Solé East and Whalebone Magazine will present Sunday night movie The Goonies on Sunday at 8 p.m in the resort’s backyard…

Social Media Quote of the Day

“Even Mad Men enjoy and relax in a nice local hangout.” — Springs Tavern, sharing this photo on Instagram of a recent visit by a famous Mad Men cast member. We hope he didn’t overdo on martinis and oysters.
