Weekend Bee: We’ve Got Demented Clowns. Plus, It’s Earth Day

Happy Friday! We’re just stating this now: We’re not covering any “unicorn food” that comes out of the Hamptons this summer. You’re welcome. But what we WILL cover: Demented clowns, like those pictured above, painted by Springs artist David Geiser. This is the last weekend to catch the clowns (not to mention gay pirates, robots and monsters) at the exhibit “BENT” at White Room Gallery in Bridgehampton, also featuring artists Mark Fisher and Charles Waller. Details here.

We love coffee, and as much of it as possible

In case you missed it (you really should be following the Bee on Instagram), we reported last weekend that S & S Corner Shop, a cozy spot to enjoy coffee and locally made pastry, has opened on Fort Pond Boulevard in Springs, in the landmark Art Bldg. Hipster owners Chris and Lindsay Grodzki also sell bags, aprons and ceramics. Make sure these people stay in business, folks.

Quick takes

  • The always-on-the-road Joey Wölffer of boho-chic Styleliner boutique fame is launching a pop-up in Los Angeles and “opening a year-round space in a much bigger location in Sag Harbor,” according to Fashion Week Daily….
  • The East Hampton Town Republican Committee will open its campaign headquarters at the Red Horse Market complex with a cocktail party on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m, according to the East Hampton Star. We will give the GOP total props if they serve signature “Golden Shower” cocktails (highly unlikely)…
  • Jerry Della Femina has sold the The Independent newspaper, based in East Hampton, to billionaire investor Ron Perelman, according to 27East.com. “I’m moving,” Della Femina said, joking: “I’m taking over Bill O’Reilly’s spot”…

Everything is just about open

  • Astro Pizza and Felice’s Ristorante in Amangansett opened for the season last night. “Come in and see our new look!” the owners say….
  • Harbor Bistro in Springs, which has sunset views of Three Mile Harbor, also opened last night. The “Five-Spice Long Island Duck Breast” sounds delicious to us…
  • Zum Schneider, everybody’s favorite German beer house in Montauk, is not only open but hosting the 9th annual Concert for the Concerts on Sunday, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m…
  • Upcoming openings: Navy Beach restaurant in Montauk, April 28. Lulu Kitchen & Bar, the new restaurant in Sag Harbor with a wood-fired grill, plans a soft opening April 27.

On tap for the weekend…

  • Ashawagh Hall in Springs has reminded us that it is Earth Day this weekend. There will be EarthHamptons events held at the historic hall all weekend long (details here) including a panel discussion on Friday, an art opening on Saturday, and an outdoor pop-up market on Sunday. If you can’t attend, please hug a tree…
  • The 7th annual Katy’s Courage 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday in Sag Harbor Village. It is not too late to register (though it’s probably too late to train). But click here if you want to pull off a weekend warrior sort of thing. The race is in honor of Katy Stewart, a 12-year-old girl who died from a rare form of pediatric liver cancer…
  • The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill will host its annual Spring Fling on Saturday night, 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., and tickets are still available. Proceeds benefit year-round educational programs for kids. Awwwwww. Details here

Social Media Quote of the Day

“And the first lines are on the courts.” — Sportime Amangansett, sharing this lovely spring photo of its outdoor courts on Instagram. And here we thought Serena was the only one with news.
