Now here’s the damndest thing: It’s November. (That’s your breaking news update, courtesy of the Hampton Bee.) We have no idea how this year flew by so fast — a heluva lot faster than the FBI reviews emails, that’s for sure. Fortunately, we’re doing our utmost best to enjoy fall — or, as we like to call it in the Hamptons, “off season.” Pumpkin picking at Hank’s Pumpkintown in Water Mill? Check. Apple picking at Milk Pail? Check. Pumpkin ale tasting, at Montauk Brewing Co.? Not yet, and shoot…we may be out of luck. We hear “Pumptauk” is tapped out in the tasting room. *Sigh. Autumn, you are a cruel, cruel season.

That said, there may still be opportunities for “autumnal cauliflower picking,” another activity on our list. See photo above, taken at Balsam Farms, everybody’s favorite post-beach produce stand in the summer. Balsam is still open every day, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. We hear butternut squash and fingerling potatoes are also available.

Quick takes

  • Is it too early to talk about Christmas tree lightings? No, we don’t think so. The Southampton Village plans to light its tree on Saturday, Nov. 26. Details here. And yes, there will be horse and buggy rides…
  • Move over, pumpkin spice. Sagtown Coffee in Sag Harbor is promoting its signature honey cinnamon latté (swoon!). It’s “rich and creamy with a subtle cinnamon heat,” says the coffee shop, which is a relief, as we do not like overpowering cinnamon heat…
  • And in apple news, Wolffer Estate Vineyard reports that the process of making its No. 139 Dry White cider has begun. See impressive Instagram video. Those beautiful apples come from local fave autumnal spots Halsey Farm and the Milk Pail (of course they do)….

On tap for the weekend

  • Townline BBQ in Sagaponack will have live music tonight (and every Friday), from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The joint promises “smoking hot tunes” this evening by local creative Telly Karoussos
  • We believe that children are our future. Teach them well, and….well, you know the rest. Hampton Coffee Company is hosting youth karaoke tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at its Southampton location. You must be in grades 5-12 to perform. Enjoy. Alternatively, if you do not enjoy youth singing early Justin Bieber, patronize one of Hampton Coffee’s other locations…
  • Southampton Social Club promises to “keep the party going,” even in the off-season, and will have DJ SoCo spinning tunes on Satuday. We are not hip enough to know who Dj SoCo is. Doors open at 9 p.m….

Social Media Quote of the Day

“Take the edge off, kick back, and start the countdown to election day!” — Park Place Wines in East Hampton, posting this article on election-themed cocktails to Facebook. We’re partial to the “They Go Low, We Go Highball” option…
