Happy Wednesday! Now here’s something to make us feel lazy as we pop into Mary’s Marvelous in East Hampton for our morning coffee and chocolate sour cream muffin…a gym called AKT InMotion (pictured above) has moved in next door, in the former POE Yoga at 3 Railroad Avenue. The studio is owned by celebrity trainer Anna Kaiser, who apparently makes Kelly Ripa, Shakira and Sofia Vergara look the way they do. Well, good on her.
Kaiser, who has locations in the city and New Canaan, Conn., experimented with a Sag Harbor pop-up last year, and found an East End clientele eager for her eclectic workouts — which feature things like a disco ball and dance-based interval training. (What will these fitness people think of next?) Classes mash up strength, cardio and flexibility training, and are designed to prevent pain and boredom.
The Railroad Avenue spot is a permanent, full-year-round home for Kaiser’s AKT in the Hamptons. Instructors, many of them former dancers, also offer private lessons in one’s home, for those who can afford not to sweat in public. The studio is still being built out (although AKT’s crew managed to do a workout in the raw space last weekend) and should be open to the public by mid-June, according to Sarah Siciliano, AKT’s sales director. She does the workouts herself. “Every movement has a purpose,” Siciliano says. “It does things to your body over time if you stay committed to the program.”
Prices are $500 a month for unlimited sessions in East Hampton, $600 a month for an unlimited package in the city and East Hampton, or $40 for a 60-minute workout. (Add another $6 if you care to end your session at Mary’s with a coffee and a muffin….just saying.) More information on AKT’s site here.
