Happy Tuesday! Everybody says it’s fall, despite the fact that it remains officially summer until Sept. 22, so we’ll reluctantly get into the autumnal swing of things by sharing pumpkin photos. The above photo was taken at Hank’s Pumpkintown, the place that looks charmingly idyllic, especially when we’re stuck in traffic on Route 27 in Water Mill. The good news is that Pumpkintown — run by Hank and Lynne Kraszewski — opened this past weekend for the fall season (we enjoyed photos like this, on Facebook) and there are pumpkins, apples, slides, giant chairs, corn mazes and the like. Did someone say #pumpkinseason? OK, we’re into fall now.
Speaking of fall festivities…
You may be aware that the great German
fall festivity beerfest of Oktoberfest begins THIS weekend in Munich (despite the rather confusing name). Because Americans cannot figure out that Octoberfest begins in mid-September, most events on this side of the pond start later. Southampton Publick House plans to kick off Oktoberfest on Sept. 30 by tapping its signature “Octoberfest lager” (an amber-colored beer made with imported German malts and hops). Meanwhile, Zum Schneider Montauk is not taking any chances and waiting until Oct. 15 to throw its version of Oktoberfest, complete with riesenbrezn (giant pretzels).
UPDATE: Shortly before this dispatch went to publication, we learned that Rowdy Hall in East Hampton has figured out that whole “Oktoberfest is really in September” thing and plans a festival THIS Saturday. Details here. Gut gemacht, Rowdy Hall!
I’d like my omelette next to Steven Spielberg, please
Nick & Toni’s, the East Hampton institution, is bringing back brunch. (Truthfully, we didn’t know it had ever left.) Starting this weekend, the restaurant will serve Sunday brunch, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There will also be specialty brunch cocktails, like the Organic Bloody Mary, which sounds…healthy.
Anthony Bourdain, sometime Montauk resident, has won yet another Emmy for his “Parts Unknown” series on CNN….
The East Hampton Press and Southampton Press are releasing a special tabloid-size issue, “Design + Architecture,” on Oct. 5….
The Anne Weissman show at the Depot Art Gallery in Montauk, which opened this past weekend, continues through Sept 19…
Social Media Quote of the Day
“#DENIMPORN.” — Amanda Beckmann of Montauk, sharing this photo on Instagram. Beckmann sells upcycled denim products, like this $975 American flag, via her Etsy shop Artbya. Apparently denimporn is a thing.
