#TGIF! Move over, Kardashians. We have breaking reality-show news (not related to the presidential campaign, which has become a reality show in its own right). It seems that employees of Groundworks @Hrens, the landscaping company and garden center in East Hampton, pictured above, have been auditioning for an undisclosed reality show. Austin Bahns, garden center manager and Jake Beyer, landscaping crew chief, even got new haircuts for the spotlight, as this Facebook photo reveals. We pressed Groundworks for details, but for now there is a cloak of secrecy. Hmm. “Keeping Up With the Kontractors?” “Hot Horticulturists of the Hamptons?” We’ll report back when we have more details…

Spring! Glorious Spring!

Well. Nothing says spring like a poached farm egg, three-layer butter cake and a glass of Gewürztraminer. Red Maple, the restaurant at The Chequit on Shelter Island, is hosting a spring wine dinner (yay!), led by two sommeliers from the North Fork winery Lenz. The aforementioned items are on the menu, as are seared scallops and aged ribeye. If diners have questions, all sorts of knowledgeable people — including Red Maple’s executive chef Robert Sawyer and pastry chef Gayle Scarberry — will be on hand to answer questions, like “How does one pronounce Gewürztraminer?” The four-course dinner, which is $90 per person, is scheduled for Saturday, March 26, at 6 pm. And the Spring Equinox, lest anyone has forgotten, is Sunday, March 20.

Quick takes…

Indian Wells bombshell? The Amagansett Chamber of Commerce reminds everyone that Marilyn Monroe was partial to Amangansett’s beaches (take that, Southampton!), posting this compilation of Marilyn romping in the surf, sometimes with Arthur Miller, circa July 1957…Almond Restaurant plans its next Artists & Writers meet-up next Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. The speaker is Brian Halweil of Edible East End fame. (No pressure, Almond chef Jason Weiner.) Three-course dinner is $45… Cork and Jug, the liquor store in Hampton Bays that is always open (even during blizzards), has selected these eight wines that it thinks would be “perfect for your Easter table.” Keeping it classy, Cork and Jug. Easter, by the way, is March 27.

Social Media Quote of the Day

“Put a lid on it. (Your head, that is).” — Rowdy Hall restaurant in East Hampton, which apparently is not feeling the Spring, reminding everyone via this Instagram post that snow is in the forecast and #babyitscoldoutside.
