Happy #HumpDay! In the spirit of the looming St. Patrick’s Day holiday (and possibly because we have nothing better to do) we’ve been tracking the progress of local suds company Montauk Brewing Co. — and lo and behold, there it is, lighting up The Pennsy, the new artisanal food court in the godforsaken Penn Station area. “This place has it all, great food, great beers and great location,” say the brewers, who apparently enjoy Midtown Manhattan’s commuter milieu. We are excited to pick up a can of Session IPA, next time we’re waiting to board the Cannonball.
Incidentally, Montauk Brewing Co. will also be sampling its beer in Brooklyn tonight, at music venue Union Pool, which is known for its bearded millennials, photo booth and requisite taco truck. Perhaps more impressively, the company reports that its cans are now in all Whole Foods locations in the city — not bad considering the brewers just started in 2012.
Dockers Waterside Restaurant on Dune Road in East Quogue, which officially opens April 1 after hosting an Easter brunch, will hold its season opening party on May 7 at 5 p.m…In Westhampton, there are new owners for the building housing the now-shuttered Red Fortune restaurant (purveyors of dubious Chinese-Japanese cuisine). No word yet on what the property will turn into, although the new owners could possibly open a luncheonette, coffee shop, delicatessen or another restaurant…Tate’s Bake Shop reports that its whole-wheat dark-chocolate-chip cookies have made BestProducts.com’s list of “27 Chocolate Chip Cookies Better Than a Homemade Batch” and — get this — the cookies are actually cited as being “somewhat healthy.” We are bookmarking the list.
