TGIF! Behold, we cannot get enough of the adorable face of Penny Mogol of Sag Harbor, whose dad Matt (also in the photo, though he’s harder to notice) is trying to raise funds on Kickstarter for his latest invention, the Kid Lid case cover for iPhone and iPad. This handy accessory covers the start button on your device, which children now come out of the womb knowing how to find with their tiny adept fingers. Darwin would be proud. Maybe. Regardless, if such a case cover interests you, head immediately to Mogol’s Kickstarter page. He is attempting to raise $12,500 by March 4 and is about one-third of the way there.
We asked Mogol — who successfully raised funds on Kickstarter for his first product, a patented kiddie-proof keyboard cover — if it’s tough to be an innovative startup type on the East End. This isn’t Silicon Valley, people. “It can be difficult,” he says, “but I have to say there are supportive people here that get it.” He’s hopeful to hire a few locals to do his marketing, if Kid Lid takes off. “I’m sure there’s some NYC transplants that might want to get involved,” he says.
We hope to see the latest Kid Lid case in the RadioShack at Bridgehampton Commons. As we’ve noted, it’s one of the most profitable RadioShacks in the country, due to
citiots weekend vacationers forgetting their smartphone accessories…
On tap for the weekend…
Inn Spot on the Bay, which has been delighting foodies with its constantly changing international menus, will be attempting German cuisine this weekend. The menu features zwiebelkuchen, rindsrouladen hausfrauenart and about 10 other things we can’t pronounce, but are doubtlessly delicious…New Moon Cafe in East Quogue will host “Tap It Friday” tonight, with $5 tapas and $5 selected beers…Musician Mike Rubenstein will bring his talents and trumpet to Bay Burger in Sag Harbor tonight, details here.
Did someone say comfort food?
If you’re feeling peckish, you may want to stop into Wild By Nature, the organic grocery store in Hamptons Bays, which says it’s no-bake flourless chocolate chip cookies are on sale all month….Speaking of delicious, avid Bee reader Jimmy Thompson says he ordered a few jars of Backyard Brine after reading this post and reports that the “We Go Together Like Bread & Butter” pickles are “very good”…. Baron’s Cove restaurant in Sag Harbor has a new weekday tavern menu, which includes special plates like Lobster & Shrimp Mac ‘n Cheese and Ritz Crusted Sea Scallops (and also Iceberg Salad, but seriously, who is going to order that).
Social Media Quote of the Day
“#TBT…that time Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders were quarantined at Camp Wikoff in Montauk.” — Amagansett Chamber of Commerce, posting this historic photo on Facebook. We’re happy the Chamber avoided the more controversial #yellowfever hashtag.
