Daily Bee: Crowns of Lingonberries. Tennis Clinics. And Butter!

springs holiday marketHappy Monday! It was a heck of a holiday weekend. There were vendors at Ashawagh Hall’s “Made by Hand” holiday market in Springs (see photo above), Christmas carolers at the Chequit on Shelter Island, people wearing Dickens top hats in Westhampton, and lovely ladies in white dresses and sashes at the Maidstone’s St. Lucia’s celebration in East Hampton. (We didn’t know what St. Lucia’s Day was either. Apparently the Swedes celebrate the young girl who was martyred in 304 A.D. by carrying candles and wearing crowns of lingonberries…fun times!) Don’t know about you, but we didn’t even need egg nog to be filled with the holiday spirit these last few days.

More holiday markets…

If you were out of town, dammit, or just being all Scrooge-like in your basement over the weekend, not to fear: There are more holiday happenings in the Hamptons! Starting tomorrow (that’s right, Tuesday) Southampton Soap Co. will host a holiday gift show in Water Mill. “Bring a list, leave with a smile!” the organizers say. That should beat the grinch out of you. Check here for times; the show will also be held this Saturday and next Tuesday. Meanwhile, artsy gardener Linda Nelson of Createaerie invites all to stop by her Hamptons Bay studio this Saturday Dec. 19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for “Holiday Shop Handmade” featuring nature-inspired gifts. And if you missed the bazaar at Ashawagh Hall in Springs this past weekend, there will be a “Holiday Spectacular” this coming Sunday, Dec. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring works for sale by local artists and photographers.

For those who prefer sweating…

East Hampton Indoor Tennis is hosting “Tinsel and Tennis” holiday clinics starting Saturday, Dec. 19, through the end of the year. And what’s more, the organizers seemed to have indulged in a little holiday cheer before  announcing the clinics on Facebook:

Join us at the courts to work up a sweat in tennis aerobics or playing a set.

Drop off your junior for clinics and fun and head into town to get your holiday shopping done!

Not exactly Clement C. Moore, but we appreciate the delightful cadence. See the full schedule of tennis clinics here.

Social Media Quote of the Day

“Don’t be afraid of butter,” AKT InMotion, the gym in New York and East Hampton that’s owned by celebrity trainer Anna Kaiser, as it posted this delicious photo on Facebook. Words to live by this holiday season.
