Almost Weekend Bee: Irish Potato Bites, Umlaut Domination & Montauk Pearls

Happy almost weekend! We told you the season has arrived. Our new cat, who we’ve previously noted is more accurate than Doppler, was not surprised that Winter Storm Stella delivered more rain than snow. It’s almost summer, people. Just look at those blue skies, snapped yesterday at Georgica Beach (where, truth be told, the wind and teeming shore almost blew this reporter back to the Montauk Highway). Excuse us while we pour some rosé and write the rest of this dispatch.

Who’s in charge here?

Apparently, the wise recently departed the East End for foreign indulgences. Famed restaurateur David Loewenberg (Fresno, Bell & Anchor) has been dining in England, equally famed restaurateur Pierre Weber (Pierre’s Bridgehampton) has been getting lost in Marrakech, newspaper editor David Rattray has been in Japan (and visiting the Toyko location of Pilgrim Surf Supply!)…..as one local on Instagram asked: “Who is running the Hamptons??” Fortunately, we have the answer: Novelist Iris Smyles, wearing this snazzy pant suit as she introduced La Traviata over the weekend at Guild Hall in East Hampton. Brava, Iris, brava.

Quick takes…

Wölffer Estate Vineyard, which is preparing for world domination, one umlaut at a time, confirms to Eater that it is taking over the former Meeting House restaurant space in Amagansett. The plan is to be open by #MDW (Memorial Day Weekend)….

Social Media Quote of the Day

“Let’s put all that ice outside to good use, shall we?” — Edible East End, sharing this delicious Instagram photo (we’re guessing Montauk Pearls, but we could be wrong) from Baron’s Cove restaurant in Sag Harbor. Be still our briny heart.
